Creativity, Technology and Authentic Assessments article

Below is the PDF on a more thorough presentation I made in regards to the use of creativity, ICT and authentic assessments within education.

It has been abridged and formatted in a glossy magazine format (2008).

UPDATE: Teachers and students both need to get more involved in the theory of how these things work, but also in the practice of creating these media opportunities. The real challenge is to make interesting items for public view. Many know how to use movie editing software or create slideshows, but few know how to design them well. Few understand visual and media literacy. Students apply special effects, bells and whistles, but does it make their work better? Do they know how to edit creatively? Do they understand good layout? Teachers need to share the technological and creative possibilities that are available for dissemination.

There's a great article in Educational Leadership Magazine about digital literacy (and art).

Literacy 2.0!

Highlighted summary (the article goes in depth with each number):

Eight Guidelines for Teachers

1. Shift from text centrism to media collage.

2. Value writing and reading now more than ever.

3. Adopt art as the next R.

4. Blend traditional and emerging literacies.

5. Harness report and story.

6. Practice private and participatory social literacy.

7. Develop literacy with digital tools and about digital tools.

8. Pursue fluency.
